Overheard New York: 20thCentury is a parody of the Instagram
account @overheardnewyork. These quotes are fictitious and do not
represent the subjects of the collection, but rather provide a
contemporary lens into the sociocultural context of Manhattan’s
nightlife during the mid-20th century. These quotes reflect the
variety of conversations we imagine would have taken place at
nightclubs in Manhattan from 1940-1960s, as they provoke the reader to
digest the controversial values that contrast with those of our
current society today.
